Farewell to mr. dr. Hellen van der Wal as a member of the CAFT.

ORANJESTAD – After two terms as a member of the Aruba Financial Supervision Board (CAFT), mr. dr. Hellen van der Wal is no longer eligible for re-election. 
 

As of August 1, 2024, drs. Marion Agunbero will replace Van der Wal as a member of the Financial Supervision Board for Aruba.

Hellen van der Wal has an extensive history within the government apparatus of Aruba and worked, among other positions, within our police force. Since 2004, sh served as Secretary of the Advisory Council, and she has extensive knowledge of the financial situation and budgetary processes of Aruba. She has made significant contributions to the CAFT. Additionally, Mrs. Van der Wal was very active in the community. She co-founded the Youth Hotline and served for many years as its chairperson and member, and since August 1, 2018, as a member of the CAFT.

On June 21, 2024, the Kingdom Council of Ministers approved Aruba's proposal to appoint drs. Marion Agunbero, as the new member representing Aruba in the CAFT. Mr. Agunbero has extensive experience in the financial sector and held various positions at the Central Bank as the section manager for supervision and at the Ministry of Finance as director. 

He worked in the Aruban tourism industry as executive director of its pension fund and at the Caribbean Mercantile Bank N.V., holding several positions, including assistant managing director of retail products.  
He is currently a member of the Supervisory Board of the Caribbean Mercantile Bank N.V. and of the Advisory Council member Aruba, from which he will resign to accept his new role as a member of the CAFT.

On behalf of the government of Aruba, the Prime Minister thanks Hellen van der Wal for all the work she has done for the CAFT on behalf of the country of Aruba and wishes Mr. Agunbero much success.
