Extension of public consultation for Right to Nature
ORANJESTAD - The Ministry of Transportation, Integrity, Nature, and Senior Affairs invites the community to participate in a series of public consultations on the Right to Nature introduction in the constitution.
These sessions will conclude on April 21, 2024.
These efforts reflect a significant step in the recognition and protection of the fundamental right of nature to exist and thrive.
Several consultation sessions have taken place over the past two weeks and have seen participation from the general public, the commercial sector, lawyers, ecologists, and the Department of Nature and Environment. During these sessions, all articles of the bill have been discussed in detail, gathering the viewpoints and suggestions of the participants. Emphasis has been placed on open dialogue and receiving constructive feedback. It is crucial to involve a diverse group with various interests in the law's drafting to ensure that the final law is representative of the desires and needs of the Aruban community.
The consultation process continues on a digital platform. Interested parties can read the bill and share their opinions and suggestions via the online form: www.publico.aw/consulta/. The community's feedback will help the government to introduce more effective legislation.
The deadline for submitting feedback has been extended to April 21, allowing the community more time to contribute to legislative development. April 21 marks a year since the bill's submission and is a day before the celebration of Earth Day.
These initiatives are more than just legislation; they are a statement of collective commitment to respect, protect, and balance nature with our island.
