Expansion project airport accelerated

ORANJESTAD—On February 7, 2026, Mr. Wendrick Cicilia, Minister of Tourism, Transport, and Labor, and members of the Supervisory Board of the Aruba Airport Authority, CEO Johnny Andersen, Member of Parliament Jennifer Arends-Reyes, and stakeholders visited the 2030 Gateway expansion project.

The Gateway 2030 project is of great importance to the airport, our economy, and our tourism and is a project of enormous scale, with an investment of more than 500 million florins. Gateway 2030 is part of a vision of Aruba Airport and the Aruban government to continue to provide an experience of quality, efficiency, safety, and comfort—elements that an airport must be able to deliver.

The baggage handling system and the new check-in hall have already been completed. The new baggage handling system can currently handle 2000 cases in less than an hour and features state-of-the-art technology.

The project is in the most important phase of construction, namely the expansion, which will consist of three additional gates and a bridge connecting the airport facilities to the new gates. Phase 1B is expected to be completed this year.

"As the project moves forward, it is expected to be completed before 2030," Minister Cicilia stated.
