Expansion of the Landspakket helps advance Aruba's economic policy.

ORANJESTAD – In 2023, a process began within the framework of the Landspakket to explore additional actions to achieve economic reforms more comprehensively. 

It is crucial that what Aruba has agreed upon helps advance Aruba's economic policy implementation. The Ministry of Economic Affairs, Communication, and Sustainable Development drafted a note to the Netherlands outlining its economic vision, focus areas, and current economic management projects.

The desired impact of this partnership, approved by Aruba's council of ministers, is to stimulate inclusive and sustainable economic development. Based on this note, various discussions were held between Aruba and the Netherlands, leading to agreements on technical assistance and financial aid in several areas.

The focus areas are:

  1. Making the business climate more accessible and attractive to local entrepreneurs and investors;
  2. Improving regional trade;
  3. Creating a work and housing environment for Oranjestad and San Nicolas;
  4. Food security (promoting commercial agriculture);
  5. Data-driven economic management considering the island's capacity.

Concrete collaboration with the Netherlands to reach this goal will focus on: 

  • Optimizing permitting processes and information supply; 
  • Enhancing consumer protection; 
  • Improving access to capital for investors; 
  • Boosting trade between the ABC islands and other markets such as Colombia and Suriname; Economic development plan for the center of Oranjestad and San Nicolas;
  • Management of the creative industry "Orange Economy"; 
  • Research on the most suitable types of greenhouses, promising crops, and cultivation methods for Aruba.

The Minister of Economic Affairs, Communication, and Sustainable Development Geoffrey Wever is satisfied with the cooperation with the Netherlands within the framework of the Landspakket. In addition to the assistance from the Netherlands to advance economic management areas, the Landspakket also ensures a continuity structure for achieving changes for sustainable progress in a country.
