Expansion of RECIP-3 is a Major Step for Aruba's Energy Security
ORANJESTAD — On August 19, the official handover ceremony took place for the RECIP-3 project of WEB Aruba N.V., representing an investment of 115 million AWG.

The completion of the plant expansion is a key step toward strengthening the security and reliability of Aruba's power supply.
Together with the board of directors of WEB Aruba and a representative of Wärtsilä Finland Oy, the Minister of Energy, Dr. Arthur Dowers, pressed the start button, officially commissioning the two new RECIP engines.
With the commissioning of these two engines, total energy production capacity via RECIP increases from 194 MW to 230 MW, providing Aruba with more firm capacity to meet growing energy demand.
During his speech, Minister Dowers expressed his gratitude on behalf of the Aruban government to Wärtsilä for its years of collaboration with WEB Aruba. He also thanked the management, staff, engineers, and all professionals who contributed to the realization of this technically and logistically complex project.
According to Minister Dowers, the preliminary work is not always visible when looking at the final installation. The transportation of heavy equipment to Aruba, installation, technical integration, and meeting various deadlines required a substantial effort from everyone involved. Despite the complexity, the project was completed one week ahead of schedule.
More Capacity for a Growing Aruba
The expansion comes against the backdrop of Aruba's ongoing growth and the additional demand this places on the power grid.
Increasing economic activity, tourism, and consumption, combined with periods of intense heat, make energy demand an ongoing challenge. Therefore, Aruba must maintain sufficient capacity and, more importantly, plan ahead to prevent demand from exceeding available supply.
We have taken an important step to ensure energy security in our country,” Minister Dowers emphasized.
He noted that while the government is responsible for setting the direction, overseeing policies, and monitoring general administration, the technical experts and professionals at WEB carry the vital responsibility of implementation.
Foundation for the Next Phase in Energy
The RECIP-3 expansion not only provides additional capacity but also creates a stronger foundation for the next phase of Aruba's energy management.
With the two new engines in operation, WEB is better positioned to guarantee power delivery while Aruba continues preparations for renewable energy and storage projects, including a larger share of solar and wind energy in the energy mix.
