Congress aligns vocational education with local labor market
ORANJESTAD — Within the framework of Learning Cities Aruba, the Ministry of Education organized a congress on October 5 in collaboration with EPI, OABA, EPB, and SPO to better align vocational education with the local labor market and expand internship opportunities for Aruban students.
This gathering represents a joint effort to foster greater cooperation and structural alignment among the institutes offering vocational training on Aruba. These include: Scol Practico Educativo (SPO) for practical vocational training, Educacion Profesional Intermedio (EPI) for intermediate vocational education (mbo), Educacion Profesional Basico (EPB) for basic vocational education, and the Organisacion pa Avance di Bario y Aprendisahe (OABA) for neighborhood development and education.
Aligning education with our country's needs
The primary objective of the meeting was to discuss and exchange concrete ideas on how the content of educational programs can be better tailored to the needs of our labor market. Through this dialogue, we aim to ensure that students acquire the knowledge and skills demanded by today's workforce.
Additionally, special attention was given during the meeting to the role of internships. Internships are considered the fundamental bridge between the classroom and the professional world, offering students the opportunity to gain practical experience and make a smoother, more successful transition into the job market.
Commitment to the future of youth
During the session, Minister of Education Gerlien Croes emphasized the value of this close collaboration between the education sector and the business community: “We must ensure that our youth are well-prepared for the realities and needs of our labor market. By aligning vocational training with the demands of employers and promoting high-quality internships, we are investing not only in the student's future, but also in the sustainable development of the Aruban economy.”
This initiative marks an important step toward a more dynamic and inclusive educational system geared entirely toward student success and Aruba's progress.
