Certificate Ceremony for Young People Who Completed the Social Formation Program

ORANJESTAD – A certificate ceremony was recently held for young people who completed the Social Formation Program (SVT).

Prime Minister Mr. Mike Eman and Minister of Health, Social Affairs, Elderly Care, and Addiction Care, Mrs. Drs. Melvin G. Wyatt-Ras, attended the event.

Both officials expressed their pride and satisfaction with the dedication and perseverance of the participants. They emphasized that these young people seized the opportunities given to them and are now reaping the rewards of their hard work and sacrifice.

The Social Formation Program (SVT) offers young people aged 17 to 25 the opportunity to build discipline and prepare for the labor market. The program includes training at ARUMIL and internships at local companies and has already helped many graduates secure employment.

The program consists of two phases:

  • Phase 1 (military): Conducted at the Marine Barracks in Savaneta under ARUMIL supervision. This phase lasts approximately 16 weeks and focuses on physical training, discipline, and respect.
  • Phase 2 (work/study): Participants attend courses and complete internships with local companies, aimed at preparing them for employment or further studies.

Through Enseñansa pa Empleo (Education for Employment), SVT provides young people with valuable opportunities for their future. More than 80% of graduates go on to secure a job or continue their education. While initially open only to young men, the program is now also available to young women.

Prime Minister Eman emphasized that SVT was specifically designed for young people at a crossroads in life—often during a time of self-reflection, uncertainty, or personal challenges. SVT provides them with structure, direction, and opportunities to pursue their goals and ambitions.

The Social Formation Program was launched in 2010 by the Aruban government in collaboration with the Dutch Ministry of Defense.
