Campaign Safe Traffic launched.

This is an old post.

ORANJESTAD - On Friday, March 1, 2024, the Ministry of Justice and Social Affairs and the legal field stakeholders launched the "Safe Traffic" campaign.

Thye also shared the official Facebook page with information on traffic safety for children.

The use of child seats in traffic is of the utmost importance because younger passengers are at greater risk in a traffic accident. Traffic accidents are the leading cause of death among children worldwide, and according to the World Health Organization (WHO), approximately 1.35 million people lose their lives in traffic accidents every year, with children at innocent risk.

Child seats help reduce the risk of infant death by 71% and by 54% for children in the car in the event of an accident. Our responsibility as adults and caregivers is to protect children as much as possible. Therefore, the motto "Save Lives and Choose Safety" is being promoted.

Most accidents in the past year were avoidable. By the end of 2022, 7,341 accidents were registered on the road, involving 13,069 people, and 75% were avoidable.

The main goal of the campaign is to improve traffic safety and reduce the number of accidents. During the first phase of the campaign, the focus will be on educating and raising awareness of the most common dangers, such as driving under the influence of alcohol, speeding, distractions in the car such as using a mobile phone, and the use of seat belts and child seats.

This campaign initiative that promotes a safe traffic culture is a collaboration between various stakeholders. The traffic safety website, www.traficosigur.aw, will be launched soon.
