Bureau City Inspector and Serlimar with cleaning up action in the Village

This is an old post.

ORANJESTAD - - In a joint effort to improve the Village area in San Nicolas, the Bureau City Inspector (BCI) and Serlimar held a cleaning-up action on March 4, 2024.

The collaborative initiative aims to address the problems of the accumulation of waste in the neighborhood and promote responsible waste management practices between the residents and merchants. The Village has a significant historical and cultural background in Aruba, an old and vibrant area that contributes to the identity of our island. However, the Departments of Nature for many years has received images and videos about the littering and waste produced in this area. There is a need for the maintenance of the area of the Village.

Both old and present data indicate a worrying trend of the accumulation of waste, causing environmental challenges in the area. It is also an unsightly sight and eyesore for the inhabitants who responsibly take care of their waste and Aruba’s visitors.

The Minister of Nature, Ursell Arends, urges the Village inhabitants and merchants of San Nicolas to take proactive measures to keep this area clean. Every resident of Aruba needs to have a waste container at their house, and merchants must have containers large enough for waste produced on their premises. The collaboration between BCI Serlimar and other departments emphasizes the responsibility to keep Aruban clean. While the government takes responsibility for educating and informing on the transitional phase of waste management, community cooperation is essential to complying with the rules. The Village streets are not your waste containers. You can report any illegal dump on www.fixi.aw, to ensure swift action by the authorities in charge.
