Baki den Bario continued in San Nicolas.
ORANJESTAD— To reduce the amount of trash that accumulates at home, the government will continue with the Baki den Bario project, launched after the dump was closed.
After the initial Neighborhood Action in Noord, it became clear that these cleaning efforts are needed. There is a structural problem of waste accumulation, such as sofas, mattresses, televisions, refrigerators, and old stoves. Some houses accumulate these items in the yard, given that for the vast majority, the service of throwing large garbage out is steep. The number of large garbage cans filled with garbage in a street like Semeleerstraat indicates the seriousness of this problem.
Otami Thomasia, a member of parliament; mr. Mike Eman, the prime minister of Aruba, employees from Serlimar, Ecotech, and the Bureau City Inspector organized a residential waste disposal event on Saturday, May 31, 2025. In two hours, they transported eighteen large waste bins to their separate processing locations after waste separation.
At 6:30 am, a long line of pickups filled with garbage formed on the road between Theresita Center and Caya Corsou. Many citizens from all corners of San Nicolas arrived with garbage accumulating in the yard for some time due to the considerably large container prices to throw waste out after the dump closure in Parkietenbos.
The government is analyzing possible solutions to structure and give communities the space to dispose of their waste affordably and sustainably. At the end of the Baki den Bario action in San Nicolas at 11:30 am, around 500 full pickups disposed of their garbage.
