Aruba hosts a training for inspectors of the Dutch Caribbean islands on food safety.

ORANJESTAD— Food safety in the Dutch Caribbean is taking a big step last week with inspectors from Aruba, Bonaire, and Sint Maarten participating in an intensive and practical training to strengthen food safety supervision in the region.

From 5 to 9 May 2025, Aruba hosted this practical training as part of the DuCaPHEN Education, Training, and Exercise Program. The training was given by experts from the Dutch Food and Consumer Products Safety Authority (NVWA), a worldwide recognized authority for food risk management.

The training provides the inspectors with the tools and techniques necessary to identify, assess, and manage food-related health risks. The program combines a preparatory e-learning module and a practical course, where the inspectors visited a supermarket and a hotel restaurant to practice what they learned. The inspectors developed essential skills in hygiene management, foodborne illness detection, allergen control, temperature regulation, and actual inspection techniques.

This training helps raise food safety practices and strengthens cooperation and harmonization of standards between our island and the kingdom.
With the training of its inspection staff, the Department of Public Health (DVG) reaffirms its commitment to continue protecting the health of all residents and visitors and promoting a culture of excellence in food safety in the region.
