Aruba Fire Department is under a new management team
ORANJESTAD - On Wednesday, April 24, 2024, Minister of Justice and Social Affairs, Mr. Rocco Tjon, introduced the new management team of the fire department to the Firefighters' Union SINBA.
The management team will take over the Fire Department leadership for the next six months, as it is currently without leadership following the suspension of E. Geerman from his position.
Mr. Richinel Scoop leads the management team of the Fire Department as chairman. Mr. Scoop has extensive experience in management and leadership, holding a bachelor's degree in maritime operations, a minor in offshore with dynamic positioning, and having served as a second engineer at the Coast Guard, Duty Office JRCC Curaçao, Coast Guard Commander, and Human Resource Advisor.
Mr. Tomas Correa, with a doctorate in Aruban law and years of experience at the Department of Telecommunications of Aruba as a Legal-Technical Policy Officer, will assist Mr. Scoop. He completed the Fire Academy in Arnhem in 1994. For several years, he worked at the Aruban Fire Department at the policy level as a project leader for various initiatives, such as the alarm center. Mr. Harold de Cuba is the other management team member, a Fire Department's management team member for several years.
At the same time, the government decided to strengthen the operational management of the Fire department to ensure it receives the necessary attention, which is crucial for its operations. It is a temporary decision, while the Ministry of Justice and Social Affairs and the DRH negotiate short-term support with the Netherlands.
This support is for a long period with the help of two previous fire chiefs to perform an evaluation report and provide guidance to this organization for the next two to three years.
It is crucial to have a management team reinforced with operational management and administration experts to start a new trajectory for the Fire Department. The government will look for a sustainable solution for fire department leadership meanwhile.
