Aruba Continues to Explore New Trade and Investment Opportunities with Colombia

ORANJESTAD — On September 21 and 22, Aruba welcomed a delegation of 19 Colombian companies as part of an exploratory trade mission organized by ProColombia.

The mission focuses on connecting Colombian traders with the Aruban market, identifying concrete business opportunities, and creating and strengthening sustainable trade relations between both countries. The participating companies represent a diverse range of offerings, including fresh agricultural products, processed and frozen fruits and vegetables, coffee, cocoa, beverages, and digital services.

Market Knowledge and Supermarket Visits

During the two-day program, a primary goal for the Colombian delegation was to get to know the local market better. By visiting Ling & Sons Food Market and PriceSmart Aruba, the entrepreneurs were able to inspect currently available products, packaging types and formats, brands, pricing, and how imported goods are presented to Aruban consumers.

Logistics and Import Regulations

Logistics also form a crucial part of the mission. Especially for fresh, chilled, and frozen products, factors such as the cold chain, the availability of refrigerated containers, connection frequencies, transit times, and consolidation possibilities are vital for commercial viability. Therefore, a visit to ASTEC was organized, where the delegation had the opportunity to learn more about how goods transport and logistics work in practice for Aruba.

Another important aspect is compliance with import regulations. Food products intended for commercial import must meet various customs, sanitary, and other entry requirements applicable in Aruba. Understanding these regulations from the outset helps entrepreneurs determine product potential and the necessary steps to enter the Aruban market.

Colombia Showroom Aruba

One of the highlights of the mission was the Colombia Showroom Aruba, where the 19 participating companies presented their products directly to importers, distributors, supermarkets, hotels, restaurants, and other potential clients on Aruba. In addition to establishing business contacts, the showroom offered entrepreneurs the opportunity to receive direct feedback from the local market, engage in dialogue, and adjust their business plans where necessary and possible.
