An exhibition of poems
ORANJESTAD - This year, the National Library of Aruba celebrates its 75th anniversary, for which the library in Oranjestad presents a selection of poems in Papiamento on its windows.
Five years ago, the exhibition started with a selection of classical poets. In the meantime, they expanded the exhibition with a selection of poems by contemporary poets and children's poems.
The presentation of the poems is by local poets: Belén Kock-Marchena, Denis Henriquez, Frenky Geerman, Frida Winklaar Domacasse, Gina Henriquez, Joe J. L. Fortin, Lily Clarisa, Luciano Milliard, Olga Buckley, Pancho Geerman, Reginald de Palm, Rosabelle Illes and Yakari Gabriel. The five children's poems are by Robert Reeberg, Desiree Correa, Mili Arends, Mercedes Petrochi, and Liliana Erasmus.
Five years ago, they started with 11 works by classical poets, stanzas of poems by Hubert Booi, Ernesto Rosenstand, Federico Oduber, Nydia Ecury, Mario Dijkhoff, Nena Bennett, and Nicolas Piña Lampe. Stanzas of songs by Padu Lampe, Hildward Croes, Ramon Krozendijk and Bernadina Growell-Kock. The library presents the poems on the windows and doors to attract the public attention and pay tribute to our local poets. They are impressive poems and fragments visitors can read, learn about, and enjoy. In this way, many more visitors will get an impression of the literary expressions of the children of this country and perhaps be inspired to read the complete work.
All poetry publications are part of the National Library of Aruba collection. As part of the 75th anniversary celebration of the library, which provides various services to the community, they renovated its building last year. Muralist Robby Solognier is finishing a spectacular work of art on the library walls in Oranjestad.
