ORANJESTAD - On August 23, 2024, the opening of the 'Aruba CAREBACO Junior 2024 Badminton Tournament' was held at the Playa Sports Center.
After eight years, Aruba is again the host country for the CAREBACO Junior 2024 Badminton Tournament.
Minister of Education and Sport Endy Croes gave a speech at the opening and served its first 'shuttle' to officially start the CAREBACO Junior 2024 Badminton Tournament opening. This year, 150 athletes from different countries will participate in categories from U11 to U19. The athletes come from Jamaica, Barbados, Trinidad & Tobago, Suriname, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Guyana, and Aruba. Aruba is participating with 16 male and female athletes.
The CAREBACO International is an international tournament of the Caribbean Regional Badminton Confederation, which began in 1972 and originally consisted of only four countries: Jamaica, Trinidad & Tobago, Suriname, and Guyana. Until 1999, the CAREBACO tournament was a "closed event" eligible only for CAREBACO members. However, to earn points for the BWF World Ranking, it became a "level 4 open individual event" in 1999, forming part of the BWF Future Series. Over the years, CAREBACO has grown and now includes 17 member countries.
