A new special envoy from the Netherlands, Annemieke Verrijp, meets with the Prime Minister.

This is an old post.

ORANJESTAD – The Kingdom of the Netherlands is responsible for foreign relations, and Aruba has a crucial role herein.

To facilitate communication between the islands and the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Netherlands always dispatches a special envoy stationed in Curaçao.

Recently, Prime Minister Evelyn Wever-Croes and the Director of the Department of Foreign Relations of Aruba (DBB), Ms. Jocelyne Croes, met with the new special envoy from the Netherlands, Ms. Annemieke Verrijp. Ms. Verrijp recently started working in Curaçao, and from there, she assists Aruba with better communication with the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During the meeting, they discussed several points, but primarily the issue of Venezuela. In these issues, the DBB, the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the government of Aruba have a crucial role. All eyes are on the presidential elections in Venezuela on July 28th. After that, they will maintain contact to determine the best course of action regarding the Venezuelan problem. It is important to continue paying attention to the maritime area of our region and how to ensure this area's security. The drug trafficking in the sea area between Venezuela and Aruba is alarming, and Aruba plays a crucial role in combating this.

Ms. Verrijp was previously an ambassador in the Dominican Republic and is well-acquainted with the Caribbean region. The Prime Minister is confident that Ms. Verrijp's assistance will help strengthen the communication with the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
