15 writers, one harvest
ORANJESTAD - In June/July 2023, the National Library of Aruba organized two Creative Writing courses, one for beginners and one for advanced writers, taught by the writer Vi Frank Jr.
Mr. Frank is known for, among other works, the first thriller in Papiamento, titled "Damnatio ad Bestias" (Condemnation to the Beasts), and the mysterious story collection titled "Outpost Alto Vista," a work in the Cosmic Horror genre.
Similar to the end of the course in 2021, where students had the opportunity to publish a collection of their stories and poetry. This time, students can again submit stories and poetry, resulting in another collective publication under the guidance of Mr. Vi Frank Jr. In 2022, the collection titled 'Maraca, a Caribbean Feeling' was released, consisting of various local stories and poetry. A production by eight writers who attended the course and Mrs. Noris van Lis presented the winning title.
This year, the production includes works from no less than 15 writers who participated in the two courses (beginner and advanced). The production's title is 'Halado, a collection of local stories and poetry', with Ida Croes presenting the winning title.
On Friday, March 1st, the Library has the pleasure of presenting this production, but also a surprise from Vi Frank Jr. in the form of a new book, the title and content he has been keeping secret until now. This event starts at 5:00 PM and lasts until 7:00 PM at the National Library in Playa.
