You can start paying motor vehicle tax in 2026
ORANJESTAD - The Tax Department announces that all taxable motorists can now start paying their motor vehicle tax for 2026.
By law, the payment deadline is January 31, 2026, but because this day falls on a weekend, the payment deadline will be February 2, 2026.
The Tax Department offers taxpayers the option of paying earlier, giving them more financial flexibility to meet their tax obligations. As is known, motorists can choose to pay their motor vehicle tax in one installment or in multiple installments using the partial payment service.
Tax rate
The motor vehicle tax rate will remain the same in 2026 as in previous years. Taxpayers only have to pay the tax rate. You do not have to pay the license plate fee, as the blue and white license plates are valid until 2029.
Partial Payment Service
To help taxpayers pay their taxes on time and avoid having to pay all their taxes in February 2026, the Tax Department offers the option of paying in advance and in phases. This partial payment service applies to both businesses and individuals. Currently, taxpayers have four months to pay their taxes before the February 2, 2026, deadline. Using the partial payment service, taxpayers can spread their payments over the coming months and thus pay on time.
The partial payment system is not mandatory, but it is highly recommended, especially for those who need more time or own more cars.
Conditions for Partial Payment
The conditions for the partial payment service are as follows:
- The tax is paid in advance, before February 2, 2026;
- The payment is made monthly;
- The minimum required amount is Afl. 50, which applies to a total amount of 200 guilders, depending on the license plate category;
- You cannot pay less than 50 guilders unless your outstanding debt is less than this amount;
- The final payment must be made by February 2, 2026;
The partial payment is only valid for motor vehicle tax.
The minimum amount depends on the license plate category.
The minimum monthly payment depends on the vehicle's license plate category. Here is an overview.
License plate category | Minimum monthly payment |
A, V, MFA, MFV, TR, TX, V, B (small bus), AG, BR and GAR | Afl. 50 |
B (large bus), License plate name, DT, O y T | Afl. 200 |
Online Banking
The Tax and Customs Administration also recommends taxpayers pay via the online banking services of Aruba Bank, Banco di Caribe, or CMB, using the "Bill Payment" method. Payments via the banks listed here are processed by the Tax Department system within one business day. Payments via other banks require at least 5 business days to be registered with the Tax Department.
For correct processing of online payments, it is important to provide the following information:
- Personal identification number (PIN) on which the vehicle is registered;
- License plate number;
- The period of the invoice to be paid (for example: 2026).
Request a Receipt Online
Taxpayers who pay via a bank can request a receipt online. To request a receipt online, you must do so via the website and follow the instructions. Taxpayers using the partial payment service and making bank payments can request the receipt online after all tax payments have been completed.
Deadline
February 2, 2026, is the last day to pay the tax for the first half of 2026. For vehicles falling into the MFA, MFV, and license Plate categories, the full 2026 tax must be paid by February 2, 2026.
After February 2, 2026, it is no longer possible to pay the tax for the first half of 2026 in installments.
Outstanding debt
Taxpayers with motor vehicle tax (MOB) arrears can only pay the 2026 tax after they have paid off the debt from previous years. These taxpayers must pay the debt in one installment. Payments for 2026 will first be processed based on the arrears, and the remaining balance will be processed based on the 2026 tax.
Pay on time
It is not necessary to wait until the February 2, 2026, deadline to pay your tax. As you know, taxpayers will receive a 50% penalty for non-payment or late payment. Whether you pay all at once or in multiple installments, the Tax Department recommends paying on time to avoid unnecessary costs.
