ORANJESTAD—On May 17, 2025, the Class of 2025 of Xavier School of Medicine graduated.
Minister of Public Health, Social Affairs, Elderly Care, and Addiction Management drs. Mervin Wyatt-Ras gave a speech to the graduates, their families, friends, teachers, and the Board of Trustees members.
The minister highlighted how honored she was to be a part of this momentous occasion, which marks a turning point in the lives of both the local and international graduates. "It is a pleasure for me to share this moment with you, when you close an important chapter and open a new and challenging chapter," the minister said.
The Minister of Public Health congratulated the graduates for their determination and perseverance during their careers here in Aruba, indicating that they not only managed to pass their exam successfully, but also gained a position in a global health community that urgently needs their energy, knowledge, and compassion.
She emphasized the connection the medical field has to humanity and medicine. "Good care is the one that gives a correct diagnosis but also listens to its patients with attention," the president stated. "Health is related to trust, empathy, and presence."
She also urged the graduates to consider one day returning to serve in the region, including Aruba itself, where the need for health professionals is growing continuously.
Finally, the minister recognized the faculty and staff of Xavier University for their dedication to the training of professionals, and their social role.
"Graduates of the Class of 2025, this is your moment. You have the training, the diploma, and now the responsibility. Use them wisely and with courage. Use them well! Congratulations!
