Visit to the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Bogota, Colombia

ORANJESTAD Minister of Tourism, Labor, and Transport, Mr. Wendrick Cicilia, and a delegation visited the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Bogota, Colombia, and met with the Ambassador, Mrs. Reina Buijs.

They address several topics, particularly the diplomatic connection between the Kingdom of the Netherlands and Colombia, which will soon mark its 200th anniversary.

The visit focused on how diplomatic relations open doors for Aruba. The minister emphasized that to achieve significant goals, like expanding flights to Aruba, the embassy's contacts are crucial. Recently, Latam Airlines began direct flights from Peru, an example of this type of cooperation.

They also addressed the following topics:

  • Tourism and Economy: The importance of the Latin American market for Aruba and the need to diversify our economy.
  • Sustainability and Quality of Life: The government's vision for more renewable energy and improved quality of life and purchasing power for the citizens of Aruba.
  • Maritime Cooperation: Possible cooperation in the port sector, referring to the relationship with the Port of Amsterdam, among others.
  • Energy Transition: The role of organizations such as TNO in helping Aruba with its energy transition.

Minister Cicilia explained that the ambassador has shown a great interest in sustainability and cost of living, issues that are fully aligned with the government's vision.

In addition, they discussed opportunities to import products from Colombia. Both the minister and the ambassador reaffirmed the importance of these strong relations for Aruba and are committed to working more closely in the future to open up more opportunities for our country.
