Visit to the Commander of the Royal Navy in Savaneta
ORANJESTAD—On May 14, 2025, Prime Minister Mr. Mike Eman, accompanied by Minister of Justice Mr. Drs. Arthur Dowers, visited the Commander of the Royal Navy in Savaneta, Mr. Tim van Wijk.
The Prime Minister expressed his appreciation for the continuous work and commitment of the Dutch defense on our island. The presence of the Royal Navy in Aruba is a fundamental pillar for the sense of national security, representing not only a military defense but also a symbol of the strong bond in the kingdom.
"Each visit strengthens the commitment of the military base, the commander, and all those who direct it and gives security real content, both with training as well as preparation, and, in addition, the local incorporation, which is Arumil," said the prime minister.
Arumil has an important role and is growing in the Royal Navy institute since its formation by former Prime Minister Henny Eman d.f.m., who introduced the concept of Arubaanse Militie in the defense structure. According to Prime Minister Mike Eman, Arumil has become a key institution in the base in Savaneta and is exploring helping the group with more opportunities to develop a career in our community.
The government of Aruba emphasizes the importance of improving Arumil's legal framework to strengthen its position and create more sustainability during its function in the Navy, as well as during the phase of exit and transition.
Another essential point addressed during the visit is the Social Formation Trajectory (SVT).
Commander Tim van Wijk, for his part, shared an assessment of the regional situation and the role of defense in the Caribbean. The Prime Minister expressed his desire to strengthen collaboration with the base to expand opportunities for more young Arubans who want to contribute to their country's defense and service.
The government encourages all young people who possess the will and self-discipline to join our national defense and looks forward to further local integration and participation in both Arumil and SVT.
