Vehicle Tax 2027 Can Now Be Paid
ORANJESTAD — The Department of Taxes (Belastingdienst) announces that all vehicle owners can now pay their motor vehicle tax for the year 2027.
According to the law, the ultimate payment deadline is January 31, 2027, but because this date falls on a weekend, the final deadline has been extended to February 1, 2027.
The Tax Department allows taxpayers to pay early, providing them with more financial flexibility to meet their obligations on time. As usual, motorists can choose to pay their vehicle tax in a single lump sum or spread the payments using the installment payment plan.
Tax Rate
For 2027, the vehicle tax rate remains the same as in previous years. Existing taxpayers only need to pay the tax rate; there is no need to pay for license plates, as the current blue-and-white plates remain valid through 2029.
To check how much you owe, you can log in to the BOi portal and open the "Account Overview" (Rekeningoverzicht) folder.
Installment Payment Plan
To help taxpayers meet their obligations on time and avoid having to pay the entire amount at once in February, the Tax Department offers the option to pay in installments starting now. This installment plan applies to both businesses and individuals.
There is currently a four-month period leading up to the February 1, 2027 deadline. The plan allows taxpayers to spread their payments over the coming months. The installment plan is not mandatory, but it is strongly recommended for those who need more time or own multiple vehicles.
Conditions for the Installment Plan:
- The tax is paid in advance, no later than February 1, 2027;
- Payments are made on a monthly basis;
- You must pay the minimum required amount of Afl. 50 or Afl. 200 (depending on the license plate category);
- You may not pay less than Afl. 50 unless the outstanding balance is lower;
- The final installment payment must be made no later than February 1, 2027.
Minimum Payment by License Plate Category
The minimum monthly payment depends on the category in which the vehicle is registered:
| License Plate Category | Minimum Monthly Amount |
| A, V, MFA, MFV, TR, TX, V, B (minibus), AG, BR, and GAR | Afl. 50 |
| B (large bus), License plate, DT, O, and T | Afl. 200 |
Online Banking
The Tax Department recommends paying through the online banking systems of Aruba Bank, Banco di Caribe, or CMB, using the "Bill Payment" option. Payments made through these banks are processed by the Tax Department within one business day. Payments made through any other bank take a minimum of 5 business days to be registered.
To ensure online payments are processed correctly, it is important to include the following information:
- Personal ID number (persoonsnummer) under which the vehicle is registered;
- License plate number;
- The billing period being paid (e.g., 2027).
Requesting a Receipt Online
Taxpayers who pay via bank transfer can request their receipt online via the website www.impuesto.aw: go to Digitale formulieren (Digital Forms) -> Kwitantie motorrijtuigbelasting (Motor Vehicle Tax Receipt) and follow the instructions.
Taxpayers using the installment plan and paying via bank can request their final receipt online only after completing all tax payments.
Payment Deadline
February 1, 2027 is the final day to pay the tax for the first half of 2027. For vehicles falling under categories MFA, MFV, and specific license plates, the full tax for the entire year of 2027 must be paid before February 1, 2027. After this date, it will no longer be possible to pay the tax for the first half of the year in installments.
Payment Arrears
Taxpayers with arrears in their vehicle tax can only pay for the 2027 tax after their 2026 debt has been fully settled. Payments for 2027 will first be applied to the outstanding arrears, and any remaining amount will be allocated toward the 2027 tax.
Pay on Time
It is not necessary to wait until the February 1, 2027 deadline to fulfill your tax obligation. In the event of non-payment or late payment, the Tax Department imposes a statutory 50% fine. Whether you pay in full or in installments, the Tax Department advises you to pay on time to avoid unnecessary costs.
