Update: Negative Travel Advisory for Venezuela: Situation Remains Tense and Unpredictable

ORANJESTAD – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, in collaboration with the Government of Aruba and the Department of Foreign Relations (DBB), strongly advises against traveling to Venezuela.

This update has been issued because the situation in Venezuela and the Caribbean Sea near the Venezuelan coast remains tense and unpredictable.

Foreigners, including Dutch nationals, are at increased risk in the event of an incident, such as an arrest. The Dutch embassy has limited capacity to assist individuals detained by Venezuelan authorities.

  • Do not travel to Venezuela, regardless of your situation.
  • Are you currently in Venezuela?
  • Leave the country if it is safe to do so.

Are you traveling by land?

  • Be aware of checks and possible detentions at the border.
  • The border areas with Brazil, Colombia, and Guyana are particularly dangerous due to the presence of armed groups.
  • Checkpoints are active throughout the country. Always carry your passport and/or proof of legal residence.
