Travel advisory for Venezuela and Haiti

The situation in Venezuela and Haiti remains concerning. Although the Ministry of Foreign Affairs previously reported that certain areas in these countries were marked with red and orange codes, it was announced today that the entire map of both Venezuela and Haiti has been designated with a red code.

A red-coded area means that travel there is strongly discouraged. Anyone who nevertheless decides to go to such an area and encounters problems cannot expect assistance from the Dutch embassy in that country.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs warns all persons with Dutch nationality, as well as anyone legally residing in Aruba, to avoid traveling to an area with a red code under any circumstances. 

The Ministry has received reports of several incidents involving tourists, including those visiting family. 

People with Dutch nationality and/or legal residents of Aruba who plan to travel to, or are already in, Venezuela, Haiti, or another country with a red code are urgently requested to register with the information service. This allows the Kingdom of the Netherlands to monitor the number of people in the country in question so they can stay informed of the latest developments and receive advice.

If you decide to travel to a region with a red or orange code, the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands emphasizes that assistance in the event of an incident cannot be guaranteed and that consular support is minimal.

The embassy emphasizes that travel insurance companies typically recommend against traveling to Venezuela and other countries that are experiencing war or armed conflict. Travelers are very likely to be uninsured while staying in countries designated with a red code.
