The Youth Health Care department provides information on preventive healthcare, development, and well-being of schoolchildren.

ORANJESTAD – As every year, the Youth Health Care department offers health screenings at primary schools (preparatory, regular, and special education).

These screenings are conducted in groups of children, depending on the school's assessment.
Parents are informed about these screenings promptly.
The screening focuses on physical health (such as weight, height, motor skills, hearing, vision, heart, and teeth), social-emotional development (feelings, experiences, friendships, etc.), and information from parents and the school that can contribute to a complete picture of the child's health.

If necessary, the Youth Health Care department provides advice or referrals so that the child, in consultation with the parents, can receive the appropriate support or assistance.
All screenings conducted by Youth Health Care aim to promote and protect the health and well-being of children, so that more children in Aruba grow up healthy and develop optimally. The Youth Health Care physicians are the same physicians who monitor the health and development of babies and toddlers through the White Yellow Cross and continue this monitoring during school hours.

During school hours, examinations are conducted by Youth Health Care physicians and nurses in collaboration with parents, schools, and other healthcare institutions as needed.
The preventive care provided by Youth Health Care begins in childhood and continues through adolescence. All children must grow up healthy and be protected in their development and well-being.

Therefore, Youth Health Care contributes to upholding children's rights, including:

  •  The right to good health care;
  • the right to education;
  • the right to a name and nationality;
  • the right to equal treatment, without discrimination or exclusion.

Questionnaire Form

As part of the preventive health examinations at school, Youth Health Care requests that parents complete a form. This form is given to the child through the school and must be returned to the teacher within two weeks.

Objection?

The Youth Health Care department assumes that all parents want the best for their child's health and well-being, in accordance with the rights of children.
If a parent or guardian objects to participation in the study, the completed form must be returned to the school within two weeks. Please include the child's full name and date of birth.
If the form is not submitted, the department assumes the parent/guardian consents to the medical examination at school.
