The Ministry of Kingdom Relations, Education, Youth, Innovation, and Sport Launches Process to Develop National Strategic Plan for Artificial Intelligence
ORANJESTAD — Following participation in the Third Ministerial Summit on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Latin America and the Caribbean, held in Santo Domingo on June 25 and 26, 2026, the Ministry of Kingdom Relations, Education, Youth, Innovation, and Sport is launching the development of an integrated and actionable national strategic plan for AI.
Minister Gerlien Croes attended the summit, which was organized by UNESCO and the government of the Dominican Republic, in collaboration with OGTIC and the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean. The summit brought together regional ministerial authorities to validate the Roadmap for Ethical Artificial Intelligence in Latin America and the Caribbean 2026–2027.
Following these regional advancements, Aruba will draft a national strategic plan closely aligned with these developments. This plan will be built on intensive collaboration among the public, private, and academic sectors. The strategic national approach will focus on translating ethical principles into concrete progress, particularly in the areas of education, capacity building, and digital governance.
Aruba’s national strategy will align with the core pillars of the regional roadmap:
- Integrating AI literacy into the educational system;
- Establishing a robust governance and regulatory framework;
- Protecting children, youth, and vulnerable groups;
- Promoting shared infrastructure and digital innovation.
Through closer coordination among regional partners, the public and private sectors, the Ministry, UNESCO Aruba, and the academic community (represented by partners from the University of Aruba and IPA), there is a unified goal: to position Aruba and the wider Caribbean region for the responsible and inclusive implementation of AI. This national policy marks a definitive transition from strategic planning to active execution, ensuring the country's workforce and educational system are fully prepared for the digital age.
With this initiative, the Ministry is dedicated to improving educational quality and fostering regional innovation, ultimately creating more opportunities for the Arubaanse community.
