The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issues a warning against traveling to or sailing in Venezuela.

ORANJESTAD—The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of the Netherlands regularly updates its travel advisory for Venezuela.

In this context, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Aruba advises the public to heed this travel advisory, refrain from traveling to Venezuela, and avoid Venezuelan territorial waters.

Geopolitical tensions continue to rise, increasing security risks near the Venezuelan coast and throughout the Caribbean Sea.
The situation in Venezuela remains extremely unpredictable and tense. The Venezuelan authorities may declare a state of emergency at any moment, which could lead to an immediate closure of the borders.

The airspace over Venezuelan territory is currently almost entirely closed. Please note that most flights have already been cancelled. Additionally, internet and mobile communications may experience significant disruptions. Foreigners, including Dutch nationals, face significant risks in the event of an incident. There are currently ongoing incidents, including arrests at sea. Unfortunately, the Dutch embassy is unable to provide assistance in such situations.

The travel advisory of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom therefore remains unchanged:

Regardless of your situation, do NOT travel to Venezuela.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom strongly advises all maritime traffic to avoid the following areas:

  • Venezuelan territorial waters;
  • The contiguous zone directly adjacent to the territorial waters;
  • Venezuela’s Exclusive Economic Zone, where sailing without permission is strictly prohibited;
  • Areas under explicit Venezuelan jurisdiction;
  • The northern waters of the Essequibo region in Guyana, a territory disputed by Venezuela.
