The deadline for paying motor vehicle tax is February 2, 2026.
ORANJESTAD - The deadline for paying motor vehicle tax for 2026 is February 2, 2026.
Normally, the deadline is January 31, but because this date falls on a Saturday this year, the deadline is February 2, 2026. More information can be found below.
License Plates
The Tax Office will not issue new license plates for 2026. The current blue and white license plates, issued in 2025, will remain valid until 2029. Motorists must continue using their current license plates from 2025 through 2029.
Tax Rate
The motor vehicle tax rate for 2026 has not changed. Taxpayers who are unsure how much tax they have to pay can consult the vehicle registration certificate from the Tax Office.
License Plate Fees
Existing taxpayers do not have to pay the license plate fee, as there will be no new license plates for 2026. New taxpayers who have just registered a car and need a new license plate must pay AFl. 14.00 for the plates. For scooters, a license plate costs AFl. 10.00.
Payment
Tax payments can be made at the main office in Camacuri, MFA Noord, MFA Paradera, MFA Santa Cruz, MFA Savaneta, and also at the office in San Nicolas, located in the San Nicolas Post Office.
For those paying at one of the Tax Office's branches: you can only pay by debit card. Only non-entrepreneurs aged 60 and older and people receiving benefits can pay their taxes in cash in Camacuri.
No Payment Plan
It is important to note that it is not possible to pay the 2026 taxes if there are outstanding debts from previous years (before 2026). It is not possible to make a payment plan for tax debts related to motor vehicles from before 2026.
Online payment via bank
It is recommended to pay online via bank using invoice payment, which allows you to easily enter the required information. Online payments made using invoice payments through Aruba Bank, Banco di Caribe, or Caribbean Mercantile Bank are processed by the Tax Office within one business day. Payments made through banks other than Aruba Bank, Banco di Caribe, or Caribbean Mercantile Bank will take a minimum of 5 business days to be processed and registered by the Tax Office.
Taxpayers who opt not to use invoice payment are advised to include a detailed description with their payment. This will help the Tax Office accurately register the payment. The taxpayer must provide the following information: personal identification number, period, and license plate number. For example: 50001234-2026-A97345. If there are outstanding debts from previous years, the payment for this will be processed first, and the remaining amount will be processed for the 2026 tax. If the taxpayer pays for more than one license plate by bank transfer, they must make a separate payment transaction for each. It is not possible to pay a single amount in a single transaction, as this will cause delays in processing and payment allocation.
Request proof of payment online.
For those using the partial payment service and paying by bank transfer, you can request proof of payment online after the final tax payment. To request proof of payment online, select Digitale formulieren > Bewijs motorrijtuigenbelasting and follow the instructions.
Fines for Non-Compliance
Payments received after February 2, 2026, are considered late. Payments made after bank closing time on February 2, 2026, will be carried over to the following day and will be considered late. Consult the bank's website for the closing time. In the event of late payment, a taxpayer must also pay the penalty for non-compliance. The Tax Office will impose a supplementary assessment for this.
The penalty is 50% of the unpaid amount.
For example:
- Half-yearly tax: Afl. 150.00.
- The penalty for non-compliance is Afl. 75.00.
- The taxpayer must pay the amount of Afl. 225.00 (150.00 + 75.00) for the first half of 2026.
The coming days will be very busy. The Tax Office advises you to pay your tax as soon as possible and not to wait until the last minute. For more information, see https://www.itapos.aw/motorrijtuigbelasting-betalen.
