Take Care of Your Heart: The Engine of Your Life!
ORANJESTAD — Today, September 29, is World Heart Day, and the Department of Public Health (DVG) is joining the global campaign to raise awareness in our community about the prevention of heart disease.
For 2026, the main theme is "Use Heart for Action," with the sub-theme "Don't Miss a Beat."
This message invites us to reflect on the importance of acting in time, recognizing the warning signs, and making our heart health a priority every day.
Most heart disease can be prevented. Here are some simple steps you can take to care for your heart:
- Balanced diet: Eat more fruits, vegetables, and high-fiber foods. Reduce your consumption of salt, sugar, and unhealthy fats.
- Stay active: Aim for at least 30 minutes of physical activity a day, such as walking, jogging, or swimming.
- Avoid tobacco: Stop smoking and avoid exposure to tobacco or vape smoke, as this is one of the leading factors that damage your arteries.
- Control your blood pressure and stress: Check your blood pressure regularly and find healthy ways to manage everyday stress.
Let's take action today to protect our hearts and enjoy a long, healthy life!
