Symposium, Stop Elder Abuse
ORANJESTAD - On June 15, the United Nations commemorates the International Day of Awareness of the Abuse of Older Persons. The main goal of this date is to raise awareness worldwide about the different types of abuse that the elderly can experience.
Directie Ouderenzaken, DOZ (Department for Elderly Affairs), which deals with issues related to the elderly, finds raising awareness on this topic extremely important. For this reason, DOZ is organizing the symposium "Stop elder abuse".
The symposium will take place on Friday, June 27, 2025, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Gloria Aruba (The movies), Caya Dr. J.E.M. Arends. Admission is completely free.
During the symposium, there will be informative presentations about different forms of abuse. A presentation will be given by:
- Ms. Antoniette Geerman, psychologist and author of Psyched Aruba
- Ms. Hilde Rodriguez-Taekema, notary (retired)
- Ms. Janine Rodriguez, social worker, Bureau Slachtofferhulp
- Ms. Sulima Geerman, director of SABA
- Ms. Mahalia Castillejo, case manager, Memory Center
- Stichting Mantelzorgers
