Swearing-in of Deputy Judge at the Joint Court of Justice
ORANJESTAD - On Tuesday, December 2nd, the Governor of Aruba, His Excellency Alfonso Boekhoudt, swore in Ms. M.A. Brinkenberg as a deputy judge at the Joint Court of Justice, based in Aruba.
The swearing-in ceremony took place at Cas Ceremonial di Gobernador, in the presence of, among others, the Minister of Finance, Economic Affairs and the Primary Sector, Mr. Geoffrey Wever, and the Vice-President of the Joint Court of Justice, Ms. Jane Jansen.
The Joint Court of Justice of Aruba, Curaçao, Sint Maarten, and of Bonaire, Sint Eustatius, and Saba provides jurisdiction in first instance and on appeal on the islands.
The Court of First Instance of Aruba is located in Aruba, where hearings are also held. The members of the Common Court of Justice hear civil cases, criminal cases, and administrative cases (including tax cases), both in first instance and on appeal.
