Storytelling at elderly care homes
ORANJESTAD – A highly motivated and enthusiastic team under the leadership of librarian Yosmar Maduro-Sneek will visit various elderly care homes on our island this month, May and June 2024.
The library presents three well-known people to tell stories. They are Betty Goeloe (ex-librarian), Gerry Franca (author), and Clifford Rosa (coordinator Fundacion Rancho Aruba). Sonrisa Tropical, Hélène Arends, and Grupo Zjilea Presentacion will provide musical entertainment.
Gerry Franca is the author of the children’s books, ‘Carlito ta Bay Keiro’ (Carlito Goes for a Walk), ‘E Storia di Carlito y e Tapadera’ (The Story of Carlito and the Lid), ‘Penchi: e conenchi cu su skeiro di djente’ (Penchi: the bunny with its toothbrush). Gerry Franca and Clifford Rosa will share the history of 200 years of Oranjestad, whose celebration takes place in August 2024.
Betty Goeloe worked at the National Library Aruba for many years in the Catalogues Department and Arubiana. In connection with 75 years of Library work in Aruba’, Betty Goeloe received an invitation to tell the library history in Aruba.
The National Library organizes the Storytelling at Elderly Care Homes project every year. Twelve times during three months, they visit an elderly care home with three local authors to entertain the public with unique and wonderful stories.
After the first part of the author’s presentation, the Grupo Sonrisa Tropical and Team Media will entertain the elderly residents with Aruban music.
For fifteen years, the library has presented this program for our elderly residents of various elderly care homes, like Paviljoen San Pedro, Huize Maris Stella Savaneta, SABA San Nicolas, and Cas Marie Savaneta. They document all these presentations on films and pictures. The service club ‘International Club of Quota Aruba’ provides financial support for this project.
