Signing of a cooperation agreement to join forces to promote the welfare of older adults in Aruba

ORANJESTAD—The Department for Elderly Affairs and the Department of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries (Santa Rosa), in the presence of Minister of Health, Social Affairs, Elderly Care, and Addiction Management, Mrs. Melvin Wyatt-Ras, and Minister of Finance, Economic Affairs, and Primary Sector, Sr. Geoffrey Wever, signed a cooperation agreement to join forces to promote the welfare of older adults in Aruba.

The cooperation agreement aims to expand the active participation of older adults in society and strengthen intergenerational bonds, so that the wisdom, experience, and cultural values of our elders remain alive in the community and continue to inspire the future of our country.

Minister Wyatt-Ras emphasized that the agreement represents a significant step in promoting an active and inclusive lifestyle for the older adult group.

This cooperation paves the way for initiatives that stimulate activity, joy, and a sense of community.

"Our older adults have valuable knowledge and experience that strengthens our society. They have worked hard to shape our country, and they deserve to live a dignified life in an inclusive, sustainable, and humane community."
Through the agreement, DOZ and Santa Rosa will collaborate on different projects that unite movement, nature, and community.

Among those in development are:

  • Garden Party: an annual and inclusive activity for older adults in Santa Rosa, where joy, nature, and social encounters are central.
  • Garden around nursing homes: to create a quiet, pleasant, and healthy environment in nursing homes, where older adults can be active and relax in contact with nature.
  • Fishing project for older adults and young people: to unite generations to preserve local fishing traditions and knowledge.

The cooperation agreement enhances collaboration among the government, institutions, and community to promote social welfare and health for a stronger, healthier, and more compassionate Aruba.
