Restoration of Beatrix School by the Monumenten Planning Bureau

This is an old post.

ORANJESTAD—Prime Minister Mike Eman, accompanied by architect and restoration specialist Daphne Every, inspected the vacant building of the Koningin School, formerly known as the computer room of the Julianaschool, located on Beatrixstraat.

The purpose of the tour is to see whether the Reina Beatrix School can accommodate a group of architects from the Monumenten Planning Bureau who will be working on its restoration. The architects who will chronicle the history of the Koningin Beatrix en Juliana school will be housed in the same building.

Prime Minister Eman indicated that since the directors of these historic schools are still very active, it is essential to record and preserve the history of the school and the students who became prominent figures in the community and were part of these schools.

The restoration and renovation plan includes physical work and an extensive documentation process to create a historical-cultural basis that serves both current and future generations.
Prime Minister Mike Eman explained that he and the Minister of Kingdom Relations, Education, Youth, Innovation, and Sports, Mrs. Gerlien Croes, are investigating the strategic possibilities for these buildings.

It could include:

  • Relocating the Queen Beatrix School to its original building;
  • Moving the Aruban branch of the National Library, currently situated on Bachstraat, to the historic Beatrix School building.

Although they made no final decision, a dialogue is underway to evaluate the optimal use of these historic buildings to serve the community in a functional and inspiring way. They will also consider the expressed wishes.

Within a few days, the renovation of the former computer room will start to set up a workplace for the architectural team led by Mrs. Every. The status of the Juliana School is still under consideration. Prime Minister Eman anticipates the conclusion of legal proceedings, which will pave the way for the initiation of restoration plans for the building.
