Radio Gaga at the Library
ORANJESTAD - The book "Radio Gaga: An Aruban Story" has arrived at the National Library of Aruba and will be available for borrowing starting mid-March.
This book was written by Julien Ignacio and translated by Joyce Pereira. The original title of Ignacio's story is "Radio Gaga: An Aruban Story." "Radio Gaga" is a fictional story set against the backdrop of Aruba's recent history: the lead-up to Status Aparte, the time when Betico Croes gave voice to Aruban identity.
Julien Ignacio is a Dutch-Aruban author. Her second book, "Goudjackal" (2023), a collection of stories about migrants, won two awards. "Radio Gaga," the final story in "Goudjackal," is a tribute to her Aruban grandmother from Dakota.
The cover illustration was created by Kim Violenes. Violenes is a Dutch-Aruban artist who lived in Aruba. The free publication "Radio Gaga" and the accompanying educational program "Radio Gaga in Aruba" are a production of the Dakota Foundation in collaboration with Ms. Olga Buckley, Ms. Joyce Pereira, the National Library of Aruba, the Rancho Foundation, and Colegio Arubano.
