Qredits and the government of Aruba launched Agrifund.
ORANJESTAD – On March 11, 2024, the Minister of Transport, Integrity, Nature and Elderly Affairs, Ursell Arends, and the Minister of Economic Affairs, Communications, and Sustainable Development, Geoffrey Wever, and Nataly Harms of Qredits Aruba, officially launched Agrifund.
Through Qredits Aruba, farmers can apply for financing at a reduced interest of 2% for sums between AFL. 5.000 to AFL. 200.00. These loans facilitate farmers to continue to develop their agricultural businesses and bring products to the local market.
For the government, the launch of Agrifund is a historic step and underscores its commitment to strengthening the agriculture sector and ensuring food security.
Rendell de Kort gave information about the food security research he conducted in Aruba as a World Bank consultant at the launch. Also present was the director of Aruba Agri Development Company N.V., Sr. Jeremy Croes, who emphasized the importance of direct contact with our farmers and listened to the experience and suggestions to improve the primary sector.
The next step is the certification of Good Agricultural Practices (GAP). GAP will ensure agriculture production quality, addressing consumers’ health and environmental sustainability concerns.
