Prime Minister of Aruba and Consul of Colombia: Search for the missing fishermen continues.
ORANJESTAD—Thursday afternoon, May 17, 2025, Prime Minister Mr. Mike Eman, together with the Consul of Colombia, Mr. Gustavo Serrano Amaya, accompanied by executives of Coast Guard Aruba and Curaçao, reported to the press related to the latest developments around the search for the crew of the yacht "Energy" that has been missing since last Saturday.
Before the press conference, he met with the relatives of the missing fishermen and provided them with the latest information on the rescue operation.
During the press conference, both Prime Minister Eman and Consul Amaya expressed their deep sympathy for the difficult situation the families are going through and provided a detailed summary of all the efforts made since the news broke that the yacht had not reached land.
Since Sunday afternoon, the Dutch Caribbean Coast Guard has launched an extensive search operation. A helicopter, an aircraft, and a Metal Shark unit were deployed to cover the area northwest of Aruba. As the search area continues to expand, a decision has been made to employ the Coast Guard's Dash-8 aircraft over a considerably wider area. With the permission of Colombian authorities, the Royal Dutch Navy ship Zr.Ms. Friesland and his helicopter covered a larger area north of Colombia. In addition, Ruben Croes, a well-known pilot of Search and Rescue, also went to sea with a private plane to assist in the search.
The Colombian consul thanked Aruba, the Netherlands, and Venezuela for their assistance and emphasized Colombia's determination to keep helping with the search. The latter also searched its territorial waters (Monks Islands) with maritime and air units.
Given that the search area entered completely into Colombian territorial waters, the Dutch Caribbean Coast Guard passed the leadership of the search operation to the Colombian Coast Guard. In addition, Prime Minister Eman has already contacted, via diplomatic channels, Panamanian authorities so that they can also lend a hand in the rescue efforts.
Prime Minister Eman makes a call to the community to pray and maintain faith and hope to find the lost fishermen.
