President of the Central Bank of Aruba, Mrs. Jeanette R. (Jane) Semeleer, Retires
ORANJESTAD – On December 1. 2025, Mrs. Jeanette R. (Jane) Semeleer will retire after many years of service as President of the Central Bank of Aruba (CBA).
Mrs. Semeleer, who holds a degree in Economics from the University of Toledo (USA), began her career in the public sector as a management advisor at the Department of Economic Affairs and later at the Department of External Relations.
In 1990, Mrs. Semeleer joined the CBA, initially as Deputy Head of the Research Department and later as Department Manager. In 2000, she was appointed Executive Director of the CBA.
In 2008, Mrs. Semeleer was appointed President of the CBA, becoming the institution’s eighth president and the first woman to hold this position.
During her presidency, Mrs. Semeleer oversaw several significant developments for Aruba, including:
- The supervision and implementation of the complete redesign of the Aruban florin banknotes, a seven-year project that resulted in a new series (introduced in 2019) featuring illustrations of Aruba’s native flora and fauna.
- International recognition for the new series: the 100-florin banknote was named “Banknote of the Year 2019” by the International Bank Note Society (IBNS).
As president, Mrs. Semeleer emphasized—and led efforts to uphold—the importance of financial stability, the integrity of the banking system, and sound economic and monetary policy, including within a regional context marked by environmental and climate-related challenges.
Throughout her tenure, Mrs. Semeleer guided the Central Bank of Aruba through successive international crises, including the 2008 global financial crisis and the COVID-19 pandemic, safeguarding Aruba’s financial stability during these challenging periods.
Her leadership actively strengthened and protected the Central Bank of Aruba's institutional independence, credibility, and governance.
Her leadership also contributed to promoting inclusion and gender equality within the financial sector; the CBA is among the institutions with a strong representation of women in leadership positions globally.
The Minister of Finance, Economic Affairs, and Primary Sector, Geoffrey Wever, expresses his deepest appreciation for Mrs. Semeleer’s dedication, integrity, and balanced vision for Aruba’s financial system. Her contribution, marked by vision and commitment to sustainable development, stability, and inclusion, will remain a lasting legacy for Aruba.
