Preparations are underway for the 2025-2026 school vaccination campaign.

ORANJESTAD—The Youth Health Care Section (JGZ) informs parents and guardians of children attending preparatory and basic schools that the school vaccination campaign starts in September.

Parents need to be on the lookout for information and permission letters for vaccination through the school. The JGZ section provides regular vaccines against childhood diseases during the school vaccination campaign. These include diphtheria, tetanus, polio, measles, German measles, and mumps. For girls in grade 6, the HPV vaccine is offered, which helps prevent cervical cancer.

The JGZ section emphasizes that this campaign is only focused on administering regular vaccines. These vaccines are also administered to babies and children at Wit Gele Kruis (WGK) offices. Additionally, it is crucial to clarify that this campaign does NOT include the COVID-19 vaccine.

For more than 70 years, the Youth Health Care (JGZ) section of the Department of Public Health (DVG) has been responsible for the kindergarten and basic schools cooperation to achieve a high vaccination rate in Aruba.

The JGZ section maintains a record of all vaccines received by each child and determines at the beginning of each school year which vaccines children in second kindergarten, 5th grade, and 6th grade are missing. All parents of children in the mentioned classes who have not had vaccines according to their age receive a letter informing them of the school vaccination campaign and requesting parental authorization for JGZ section nurses to administer their child(ren) the vaccine(s) they lack.
