Opportunity to Submit Nominations for Royal Honors 2027

ORANJESTAD – Every year, on the occasion of King's Day, a group of citizens from across the countries of the Kingdom receives a Royal Honor in recognition of the important contributions they have made to their fellow citizens and/or the community, either through volunteer work or in the course of their professional careers.

This year, 19 individuals in Aruba received this distinction.

All residents of Aruba, as well as organizations and institutions, may nominate a person for a Royal Honor. Self-nominations are not permitted.

The actual awarding of a Royal Honor must remain a surprise to the nominee. Therefore, it is of utmost importance that the candidate is not informed of the nomination and is not involved in completing any of the nomination forms. This helps prevent disappointment should the honor ultimately not be awarded.

The nomination process takes several months and officially begins on June 15, 2026. From that date onward, nominations may be submitted to the Aruba Decorations Committee. Both required forms must be completed in full.

Additional copies of the forms are available at the Government Service Offices in Playa and San Nicolas, as well as at the MFA centers in Savaneta, Santa Cruz, Paradera, and Noord.

When Does Someone Qualify for a Royal Honor?

An individual may be considered for a Royal Honor based on exceptional personal contributions to the community. These contributions may involve volunteer service, professional achievements, or a combination of both.

a) Exceptional Personal Contributions Through Volunteer Service

This category applies to individuals who have voluntarily and selflessly dedicated themselves to organizations for at least fifteen years in fields such as sports, arts, culture, religion, environmental conservation, social services, youth development, elder care, public order, or public safety.

b) Exceptional Personal Contributions Through Professional Work

Individuals who demonstrate outstanding performance within their professional careers may also qualify for a Royal Honor.

In such cases, the individual's achievements must clearly exceed what would normally be expected within their position and must provide a significant benefit to society as a whole. The contributions may not solely benefit the company or organization for which the individual works.

The accomplishments described above must be current and ongoing. Individuals who made valuable contributions in the past but have not engaged in relevant activities during the last five years and have been inactive during that period are no longer eligible for consideration.

To properly assess a candidate's merits, it is essential that all requested information be provided as completely and accurately as possible.

Both nomination forms must be completed thoroughly and in full.

The nomination must be signed by the person or organization submitting it, referred to as the nominator. In addition, all pages must be properly numbered and arranged in the correct order.

Statements from supporters of the nomination are also of great importance. These statements should include all requested information and provide a clear picture of the candidate's contributions and accomplishments.

Each nomination should be carefully documented and supported with sufficient evidence.

What Happens to the Nomination?

Through the official channels of the Government of Aruba and the Office of the Governor of Aruba, nominations are forwarded to the Netherlands, where they are reviewed by the Chancellery for the Dutch Orders of Knighthood.

The Chancellery carefully examines all documentation and subsequently advises the Minister of the Interior and Kingdom Relations regarding the awarding of Royal Honors.

It is possible for a nominated individual to meet all substantive requirements yet still face obstacles in the evaluation process. For example, multiple outstanding fines or conduct that does not meet the expected standards of integrity may negatively affect the assessment of a nomination.

The Aruba Decorations Committee will only process nominations that are complete and submitted before the established deadline.

The deadline for submitting nominations for Royal Honors to be awarded in 2027 is Friday, July 31, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. Nominations received after this date and time cannot be considered.
