Official opening of the HIAS Community Center at Engelandstraat
ORANJESTAD – On May 16, 2024, Prime Minister Evelyn Wever-Croes attended the opening of the HIAS Community Center at Engelandstraat.
HIAS is an international Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) established in Aruba for six years.
It offers vital services to refugees, asylum seekers, and other forcibly displaced and stateless persons worldwide and advocates for their fundamental rights so they can rebuild their lives.
In Aruba, this organization started helping persons from other countries who needed assistance. Since operating in Aruba, this organization helps all vulnerable people in Aruba. Since operating in Aruba, HAIS helped more than 4000 persons, mainly from other counties and a small local group.
The Prime Minister remarked that the government accredited HIAS presence six years ago.
Since then, HIAS and the Aruban government have had a solid working relationship, with HIAS helping in areas where the government lacks direct access.
The Prime Minister congratulates HAIS and its director, Mr. Francesco Volpi, staff, and personnel for their excellent job. She also thanks the chain manager from Venezuela, Mrs. Gina Lopez-Gnecco, the appointed liaison between the government and organizations like HIAS, for her dedication.
