New License Plates Coming Soon
ORANJESTAD – The Tax Department cannot register vehicles right now for people who need a new license plate number.
This is because license plates in the A, MFA, DT, and O categories have run out. Many people are requesting new numbers, so new vehicle registrations in these categories are temporarily on hold.
In September and December 2025, 1,500 new license plate numbers (3,000 plates) were ordered, and all of them have already been used. The Tax Department has started ordering more plates. As soon as they arrive, the public will be informed, and motorists and motorcyclists who are waiting will be able to apply right away.
If you already have a license plate in the A, MFA, DT, or O category, you can still transfer it to another vehicle or to another person. Vehicle registrations for all other license plate categories continue as usual.
Please note that tax payments and deadlines still apply, even if your new license plate has not yet been issued. This includes penalties for late payment, such as not paying the first installment of the 2026 motor vehicle tax on time.
The Tax Department apologizes for the inconvenience and is working to resolve the situation as quickly as possible so everyone can receive their new license plates soon.
