Ms. Alida Francis is the new Lieutenant Governor of St. Eustatius

This is an old post.

ORANJESTAD - On Wednesday, February 10, 2024, Ms. Alida Francis was sworn in as the new Governor of St. Eustatius.

For the first time in the island's history, a woman ascends this position.

Ms. Alida Francis was born in St. Eustatius and studied journalism at the School for Journalism in Tilburg, Netherlands. She served as Deputy Government Commissioner on St. Eustatius and has been Government Commissioner of Sint Eustatius since February 2021. Before this, Ms. Francis worked as Senior Communication Advisor and spokesperson at the Caribbean Netherlands National Office and held the position of Director of the island's Tourist Office.

With this appointment, the administrative intervention imposed by the Netherlands on St. Eustatius in 2018 expired, and St. Eustatius is now responsible for its governance and finances.

Prime Minister Evelyn Wever-Croes congratulates Lieutenant Governor Francis and wishes her every success.
