Meet GKMB – The Team Protecting Aruba from Mosquito-Borne Diseases
ORANJESTAD – The Department of Public Health (DVG) would like to introduce the community to its Yellow Fever and Mosquito Control Division (GKMB).
A dedicated team of professionals works daily in neighborhoods across Aruba to help protect the community from mosquito-borne diseases.
GKMB is responsible for mosquito control and management throughout Aruba. Its work contributes directly to the prevention of diseases such as dengue, chikungunya, Zika, and yellow fever, which can be transmitted by the Aedes aegypti mosquito.
To achieve this goal, GKMB staff conduct neighborhood inspections, identify and eliminate potential mosquito breeding sites, provide information and guidance to the public, and implement preventive measures to reduce mosquito populations around homes and businesses.
Residents often see GKMB staff working in neighborhoods or visiting homes, but not everyone is aware of the important role they play. These visits are an essential part of the preventive efforts that help keep Aruba safe and reduce the risk of mosquito-borne diseases.
GKMB personnel are easy to recognize. They wear cream-colored polo shirts bearing the official DVG logo and always carry official identification while performing their duties.
DVG encourages the community to get to know the GKMB team. In the coming weeks, more information about the division’s important work will be shared on the Directie Volksgezondheid DVG Aruba Facebook page.
Preventing mosquito-borne diseases is a shared responsibility between the government and every citizen, for the benefit of the entire community.
Through its daily efforts, GKMB remains committed to protecting Aruba. Get to know GKMB—together, we protect your family and our community.
