Implementation of the National Statistical System (NSS) is progressing steadily.
ORANJESTAD— On June 4, Geoffrey Wever, Minister of Finance, Economic Affairs, and Primary Sector, met with the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) to discuss the National Statistical System (NSS) implementation.
Aruba and the Netherlands have invested 5.9 million florins in this project in collaboration through the Country Package in 2023. Several steps have been taken, such as preparing the NSS law, purchasing the necessary hardware and software, setting up the digital data platform, and providing the training to realize this.
A national statistical system is a crucial component of a democratic society and is necessary for a nation's sustainable development. Our administration, parliament, the public, and investors can make more tangible and knowledgeable judgments based on this "live" data on the economic, demographic, social, and environmental conditions.
To achieve this goal, official statistics must meet international requirements regarding relevance, reliability, timeliness, and practical use of the data produced. The data should also be made publicly available in an unbiased and clear manner. Therefore, we will work in a participatory manner to identify the official statistics necessary for Aruba.
The Ministry of Finance, Economic Affairs, and Primary Sector's management vision is in line with the NSS implementation and is included in the Aruba Country Package. Various studies by international organizations such as the United Nations and the International Monetary Fund, in the past illustrated the importance of the implementation of a National Statistical System in Aruba.
The National Statistical System (CBS) and other official statistics producers within our government can ensure the production of a diverse array of high-quality, relevant, and current official statistics. These statistics serve as a robust foundation for formulating and evaluating policies aimed at sustainable development.
