Garden Party for the Elderly
ORANJESTAD - During October, we celebrate the month of the Elderly.

Each year, we choose a different theme, and this year, we are focusing on how the elder adults are driving local and global action. We also emphasize the aspirations, rights, and general well-being of elder Arubans. In connection with this celebration, the Department of Elderly Affairs (Directie Ouderenzaken) (DOZ), joins the Department of Agriculture, Livestock, and Fisheries (Santa Rosa) in organizing a garden party for the elderly.
In October, Santa Rosa also celebrates World Food Day on October 16. On this day, Santa Rosa and the Directie Ouderenzaken join forces to promote local, sustainable food cultivation. During the festival, fruit, vegetables, and herbs will be sold. There will also be a Creole Food competition to promote the gastronomic side of our culture.
Groups that organize social and recreational activities for the elderly will be present, selling food, handicrafts, and more to raise funds to continue their programs for the elderly. During the Garden Party for the Elderly, our local heroes —the elderly who have made significant contributions to the Aruban community— will be recognized.
The Garden Party takes place on Sunday, October 12, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Santa Rosa. During the celebration, tents, tables, and chairs will be arranged for the attendees to enjoy the fresh breeze. Enkura, a folklore band, will provide entertainment; everyone is invited to join us in celebrating the efforts of the social groups in improving the well-being of our elderly by attending this event.
