Fundacion Movemiento Ta Bida wins an Appeltje van Oranje

This is an old post.

Queen presents Oranje Fonds award.

The Aruban initiative Fundacion Movemiento ta Bida is one of the three winners of Appeltjes van Oranje 2024.

They announced the winners during the Oranje Fonds awards presentation at Paleis Noordeinde. On October 3, 2024 afternoon, Queen Máxima presented the Appeltjes in the presence of King Willem-Alexander and Princess Beatrix to organizations committed to reducing loneliness. The Oranje Fonds awards three social initiatives that matter to people in our society every year. It is the 22nd edition of the Appeltjes.

The theme of the Appeltjes van Oranje changes every year. This year, the theme was Reduce loneliness together. The initiators help others get moving and regain control of their lives. The winning initiatives receive a bronze Appeltje created by Princess Beatrix and a cash prize of 25,000 euros each. People participating in the three activities become more socially resilient and overcome social isolation. They do this in surprising and inspiring ways, which makes the boundary between the giver and receiver disappear. People are there for each other.

Fundacion Movemiento Ta Bida

The Appeltje is awarded to the Caribbean Foundation Fundacion Movemiento ta Bida from Aruba for their assistance in enabling seniors to engage fully in daily life. By organizing meetings, workshops, and home visits, the self-confidence and skills of seniors grow. In addition, the seniors are actively involved in designing activities and volunteering for other seniors.

Stichting Join Us

Stichting Join Us from Den Bosch wins the prize because they are there for young people who are lonely and want to change this. Join Us brings young people together and helps them to become socially resilient. Young people between 12 and 30 meet each other every two weeks and receive guidance from a youth professional. They learn to organize activities and also to face their challenges. This approach is used in 80 municipalities. In addition, Join Us has an online program for young people who cannot go on location.

Stichting Al Amal

Stichting Al Amal is the winner because it breaks the isolation experienced by women from migrant backgrounds.

Older migrants often feel lonely and find it increasingly difficult to find their way in society. Through activities and education, the women connect to their environment. With the program Domino Effect, women who have come out of loneliness through this approach receive training on setting up new groups. In this way, Al Amal works on a less lonely life in the long term for both the volunteers and the participants in their activities.
