For the Third Year: Voices of Tourism Inspires Local Youth
ORANJESTAD – For the third consecutive year, the Aruba Tourism Authority (A.T.A.) hosted Voices of Tourism, a three-day conference held from September 9 to 11.
This year’s edition, themed “It All Starts With You,” featured five inspiring sessions designed to spark interest, commitment, and passion among young people in hospitality and related fields—today’s and tomorrow’s voices of Aruba’s tourism industry.
A.T.A. remains committed to investing in future tourism professionals by reaching students early in their academic journey. While previous editions focused mainly on E.P.B., E.P.I., and select University of Aruba students, this year’s program expanded to include MAVO students, who are still deciding on their next steps toward HAVO or EPI. In total, four schools participated: Colegio E.P.I., E.P.B. Oranjestad, Filomena College (MAVO), and La Salle College (MAVO). This year also introduced a special session for parents.
Building on last year’s success, A.T.A. once again invited internationally renowned speaker Trent Shelton, who captivated students over three mornings. Through his powerful storytelling, Trent guided participants in finding purpose, strength, and inner peace, sharing lessons drawn from his personal experiences. With his global platform—including motivational talks, podcasts, books, social media, and mental health programs—Trent continues to inspire audiences worldwide to embrace the best version of themselves.
Trent was joined by Marquis Hill, a 20-year-old motivational speaker dedicated to inspiring his generation. Local talent also took the stage: Rodrick “Rocco” Franken, singer, influencer, and brand ambassador, shared his journey “From Dreamer to Doer.” Rocco, who began singing at age 9, is now celebrating 30 years in entertainment, having turned his passion into a successful career. Known for his charisma and positivity, he reminded students that perseverance can turn dreams into reality.
Throughout the sessions, students and parents actively engaged, responding with enthusiasm and emotion to the guidance and encouragement they received. The overarching message resonated deeply: It all starts with you. Believe in your dreams, take action, and remember that every opportunity is possible.
