Flu vaccine available

ORANJESTAD - The Department of Public Health (DVG) reports that the flu vaccine for the 2026-2027 season has arrived in Aruba and is available for people who belong to a risk group and for anyone who wants to purchase it.

The flu is more than just a simple cold. The virus can cause severe complications and even hospitalization, especially in people who are more vulnerable. Vaccination helps reduce the risk of severe illness from the flu.

Starting Monday, September 14, 2026, people who belong to one of the following risk groups can get vaccinated in the afternoon between 1:00 PM and 4:00 PM at the Department of Infectious Diseases, located at Avicenastraat 1.

The groups eligible for free vaccination are:

  • Persons aged 60 and older;
  • Adults between 18 and 59 who belong to a medical risk group;
  • Adults and children who belong to a high medical risk group, for example, people with a severe immune disorder;
  • Persons who, due to their medical condition or treatment, have received an indication for vaccination from their general practitioner, specialist, or pediatrician;
  • Pregnant women who meet the medical criteria for vaccination;
  • Healthcare workers who have direct contact with patients, especially vulnerable patients.

Persons aged 60 and older must bring their AZV card to receive the free vaccine. Persons who belong to a risk group but are under 60 years old must bring their AZV card and a prescription from their general practitioner or specialist.

For those who want to purchase the vaccine, it costs AWG 20 and can be picked up between 1:30 PM and 3:30 PM. When purchasing, you must bring a valid photo ID, and payment is only possible via debit card.

Preparations are underway, as every year, to also offer the vaccine in various neighborhoods in Aruba. As soon as the program is complete, DVG will announce the date, time, and locations where the vaccination bus will stop.

DVG advises all persons belonging to a risk group to get vaccinated in a timely manner.
