Five ARUMIL Marines Sworn in During Ceremonial Event

ORANJESTAD – Recently, five marines from the Aruban Militia (ARUMIL) took their professional oath during a ceremony at the Savaneta Marine Barracks. The event honored the five marines who successfully completed their rigorous marine training program.

In addition, several promotions took place during the ceremony, recognizing the professional development of other ARUMIL members. Notably, four service members were promoted from Seaman Second Class to Seaman First Class.

Among the distinguished guests in attendance were the Governor of Aruba, His Excellency Alfonso Boekhoudt, Prime Minister Mike Eman, the Commander of the Navy in the Caribbean (CZMCARIB) Walter Hansen, and the proud families of the service members.

Captain Lourenço Teixeira, acting commander of ARUMIL, indicated that this specific group marks a historic milestone: for the first time in its history, the unit welcomes two female service members.

"This is a milestone and a major step forward for ARUMIL. For the first time, we have female service members in our unit," Teixeira emphasized.

Recruitment Continues Steadily

ARUMIL remains actively committed to strengthening and expanding its organization. According to Captain Teixeira, the recent intensive recruitment campaign has yielded positive results. "We have intensified our recruitment efforts, making them more visible within the community. We now have a new group ready to begin their marine training on August 30, part of which will take place in Curaçao."

Following the summer vacation, ARUMIL will launch a new recruitment strategy to encourage more young people to pursue a career in defense. In August, the next application window for new personnel will open, officially kicking off the selection process for the next cohort of candidates.
